Let me begin this obnoxiously long post with a quote.
"Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets.”
Arthur Miller, more popularly known as Marilyn Monroe's ex-husband, wrote that in his play, The Ride Down Mount Morgan. I've never personally read the play, but it's supposed to be about a bigamist insurance salesman who gets into an accident and starts questioning the state of his marriages as he depreciates on his hospital bed. Or something like that.
You know how you regret something- just wholly and unconditionally regret something? You might have gotten a degree in something you actually hate. You might have broken up with the girl that stole your very being. You might have said no to something that could have changed your life. Regrets are built like bullets, you see. When it hits you, you bleed out misery and self-pity, and all you can do is press something against it to supress the blood flow. In the end, all you get is a nasty scar and a bitter soul.
But the point the above quote is trying to make isn't nearly as depressing as that. 'The right regrets' basically just mean things we initially regret that end up being for the best, as opposed to regrets we just end up bleeding from (because let's face it 'no regrets' is a stupid notion. Everyone has regrets. Anyone who says they don't is a fucking liar). For example, you regret not having excercised. But then you got to NOT excercise, so that's always good.
What I'm trying to say is, don't excercise.
